Emerge.io is solving the problem of providing sensation in a visually dominated space. Imagine seeing a button in front of you spatially in VR or MR via Apple Vision Pro and as you reach out your hand to touch it, you feel it just as you would a physical button. This company aimed to capture this space and needed some interesting ways to show it off their emerging tech to procure additional invesmtnets.
Working alongside an SDK developer that provided an accessible interface with the new device, I designed and developed a handful of small interaction prototypes that let anyone get a quick understanding of what this technology was about where prospective developers and companies could take it. The device is made up of a series of tiny speakers that can continuously be targetted towards spaces of air, just as an array of satellite dishes capture signals from deep space, which can provides a range of tactile sensations through a merger of inaudible high frequency sound waves.
This contract allowed me the insight of designing for hardware that was continuously being revised and in one sense guiding it’s development tools while in another sense, inspiring the usages of the technology altogether.
